Depends on how long you want your bracelet and ties to be. I usually cut my base strings to be 16 inches so I can have both ties be about 5 inches, and the bracelet be 6 inches

That also depends on the length of the pattern you're doing (or how much of the pattern you're doing). I do about 18 inches, folded in half for a larks head knot on a king ring and usually have scraps left over, for like general keychain size

Have you made an alpha before?If you need a specific amount of rows in your keychain, measure how long a certain amount of rows is in the alpha you have already made and then use that to calculate the length of your keychain. Base strings in alphas always need to have the length of the alpha plus some extra for loops, ties etc. In keychains you of course need double the length because you are folding your base strings in half. |

That might happen when making your first alpha, but in future alphas it shouldn't happen anymore because you now know how long a certain amount of rows will be 🙂
