Can you attach a normal pattern onto a wooden dowel? I know that you can attach an alpha one but what about a normal one?

Yes, you can.
Patterns that start with two strings of the same colour next to each other are more easily to do, but others are also possible.
You would just split the strings in half so they are three strands instead of six. Then you attach them to the dowel as usual and use both halves as one string.
