This is only an estimation:

String 1, 2, 15 and 16: 90cm
String 3 and 14: 95cm
String 4 and 13: 120cm
String 5 and 12: 60cm
String 6, 7, 10 and 11: 105cm
String 8 and 9: 80cm

This estimation would work for me, but might not work for you since you might be tying looser or tighter or you might be using different material

How can I learn to appreciate it, and what does it depend on? I always find it very difficult; now I want to start with Alpha Pattern, but I don't know how much I need.

@jolineimgl

In alpha patterns, estimating the length of the base strings is easy. The base strings need to be the length of the bracelet plus some extra for ties.
If you want to make a specific amount of rows, measure how long a certain amount of rows is in an alpha you have made before and use that to calculate.

I don't really have a method for the leading strings. I just leave them on the skein and cut them in the end.

Or did you want to know how to estimate normals?

I count in how many percent of the rows a string makes a knot of its own colour. Then I add 45 to that percentage to get the amount of string I need in cm. I figured that formula out by trial. For you it might not work.

I usually grab my entire thing of thread and tape the end and once I'm done I cut it at like the end then I don't have to measure

@lruval180 that's an alpha pattern

The base strings should be the length of the bracelet plus what you need for loops, ties etc

You can just leave the leading strings on the skein and cut then in the end.
