So I just picked up bracelet making while watching or listening to things and sometimes I'll tie the wrong knot or use the wrong string or misjudge the order I should be doing my segment knotting in, but I've found it really hard to undo knots without messing up the embroidery thread. I think my first few bracelets have turned out really messy because of this. Do you guys have any tips?

How are you undoing your knots? Try safety pins.

I have a seam ripper which helps a lot 🙂 You won't have a choice but you work the thread a little, I suggest adjusting your knot tension so it's not so tight, it helps to undo the knots when it's a bit loose 😉

I use sewing needles to unpick knots. I originally thought a larger (tapestry) needle would be best but I discovered having a thin needle works way better. I can get in between all the individual threads and easily pull out the knot without wrecking the thread.

I bought a Beadsmith awl for this purpose. It does the job perfectly but i have to be very careful as it is very sharp.

I personally use a sewing needle to until knots as well since it is thinner and easier to get between the knots and not damage the thread.

If you flip the bracelet to the back, knots are easier to undo.

I agree with most of these, I sue a sewing pin most of the time. However, you have to be careful, because of several occasions I've poked through the thread by accident, which made the string split.

Thanks everyone who replied! I wasn't expecting much when I posted the question. While I tried and struggled with a safety pin, @marie_k 's suggestion of the seam ripper worked really well for me and didn't break the thread as I feared. Again thank you it's nice to know I'm not the only one messing up! 😂
