Hi everyone! Glad to be here! I’m new to the site and fairly new to bracelet making. I can do a backwards knot and a forward knot. I can do a candy stripe bracelet and a cheveron bracelt. I’m looking to do a few diamond shape ones with the same method. I’ve found some lovely patterns on here but I’m struggling to read them properly. Which side do you start from? Does the right arrow mean and over knot and the left arrow and under knot? If anyone’s got any tips or advised would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance looking forward to speaking with you ☺️

There is a great video by Masha Knots on YouTube about how to read patterns and row by row vs segment knotting approaches. The video can be found here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cwTBtpF0TcE&t=192s. Hope that helps!

There are two different types of patterns. Alpha patterns and normal patterns. Which one do you want to learn?

It seems like you previously did normal patterns, but now I'm not sure, if the pattern you are confused about is an alpha or a normal. What is the pattern number of the pattern you want to do?

An arrow to the right means a forward knot and an arrow to the left means a backward knot. This is the case in both alphas and normals, but the knots in alphas are horizontal while the knots in normals are diagonal.

In normal patterns there can also be forward backward knots (first half like f knot, second half like b knot) and backward forward knots (first half like b knot, second half like f knot).

It’s just normal I think not alpha (not that brave yet lol) going to attempt pattern number 7 today and see how that goes

Pattern #7 seems like a very good pattern to start learning to read patterns. You can also always check the videos posted to that pattern, if you can't figure it out or you want to check, if you are doing it correctly.
