Hi! I'm going to date myself here... I made a ton of bracelets in the late 80s and early 90s, long before the internet and I don't even remember there being many books available. We just learned from our friends back then or took some strings that we thought the colors were nice and made up a pattern as we knotted. Most of the bracelets that my friends and I made were pretty basic compared to the amazing patterns on Braceletbook! That being said, my only introduction to alphas was way back then when a friend of mine started making name bracelets and showed me how. They were two colored and were made pretty much like the alpha patterns on bracelet book, except that the letters in the names were made with the base strings and not a second colored string. I hope I'm explaining well enough. I understand having multiple strings for three or more colors, but I was curious if its ok to use the base strings as the second color in a pattern with only two colors? |

Yep! That's perfectly fine, and most people do it that way to save string! I do it that way anytime I can. You just have to knot onto the leading string instead of onto a base string
