Alpha keeps getting wider

I use the flat alpha technique, and I always make sure I tie the knots on the edges right. Still, whenever I make an alpha bracelet, it keeps on widening with each row. For example, the first row is 5cm, and the last row ends up being 6cm. How can I prevent this? I already make sure none of my knots are tighter/looser than others and I don’t skip any base strings.

You often seem to be tying alphas on a dowel. It might be that the lark's head knots on the dowel are too close to each other.Does the widening start when you start adding new colours? The reason might be that the strings of the new colour are slightly thicker. Or it might just be the colour switches themselves. |

Its perfectly possible the head knots are too close to each other, I tend to push them together so it would look better. Maybe I’ll try to let them settle in place by themselves. Thanks for the advice!
