If you’re talking about strings, yes. It depends on the bracelet. I like my base strings for alphas long so I do almost an arms length the knotting length depends entirely on how much of that colour you need for the pattern. Staircase bracelets use lots of thread so I usually do 1-1.5 wingspans depending on how many colours you are using. For normals I’d use about a wingspan of thread. The best way to figure out how much you need is by trial and error. Good luck! 🙂

I usually cut my alpha base strings at 22 inches (~55 centimeters), double that if making a loop, and I will usually leave my leading strings on their bobbins or in their skeins without cutting them until I'm done with that colour. For normals, I will usually cut my strings at about 40 inches (~1 meter), double that if making a loop.

Base strings (for alphas) only need to be about as long as your wrist and a little extra for ties. Leading strings for alphas are gonna run out and you’ll have to replace them so I’d say start at about 1 meter (3 feet). For normal patterns I would do a wingspan but if you do need to replace them this might be helpful: https://pin.it/7L2zplN
