Beginning An Alpha

Hi there! I have become more and more interested in beginning an Alpha pattern/bracelet, but I don't really know how I should start it . . . I have seen different people use small wooden dowls while others use keyrings. Which one should I use / would be an easier start for me? Thanks.

@Its_Elsie I started with a bracelet. I found it easier than trying to tape a dowel down. I did pattern #21401. I started with patterns that had minimal colors and widths of 9-12 strings. Hope this helps! Best of luck!
