How long should my thread be?

Hi! I've been making bracelets for a while now, but I just can't figure out how long my thread needs to be. Somtimes it's too short, and the other time so long it's hard to knot it. Does anyone know a trick for this?😄

It heavily depends on the way you knot, the thread you use, the length you want, and most of all the pattern you're knotting.so there isn't really a universal answer to this. That's why I started writing down how long my threads were for each colour in each pattern, and then how many cm I had left at the end. That way, I can look at a new pattern and see "ah, this thread isn't used to knot with except for once every fifth row", and then look for a similar thread in my notes. It's more of an art than a science though haha |

I just found out yesterday when i was making a candy stripes friendship bracelet that with 8 strings u use three inches of string for each row u make!! if that any help at all!! lol

How do you keep the ends from getting tangled with the long strings?

@kpoggie with alphas I usually roll the string up, but with normal patterns I lay them in order everytime I've knotted, so that it doesn't get tangled

@kpoggie for normals, I only untangle the string I'm currently knotting with when segment knotting. It does not matter, if the other strings are tangled or not at that point 🙂

You can always add more string with this https://pin.it/6IruOIe ( the link might not work) but I’d say about a wingspan folded in half because I don’t like have super long scraps
