Is there a way to do an alpha loops (especially teardrop ones) with a leading string and not the base strings? All of tutorial i’ve seen is about how you need to knot base stings together but can I do the same thing using leading string? I don’t want to waste so much thread on the base strings ://

Yep! If you watch Masha Knots' tutorial she shows you how to do it only using the leading string. Personally the tutorial I found most helpful was https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HhU6IWcnt6I

I have also a question. To make a loop, it's better to have an even number of strings. For the alphas, do the leading string is taking place in the calculation of the strings ? I want to make this keychain. It's width is 18 strings, but it ask 19 strings. So, the loop has it an even number, or an odd number of strings ?

@Alicia0214 The leading string is already calculated into the shown number. So with your project you would have 18 base strings and 1 leading string, which totals in the 19 strings shown 😊

So IF I understand, even if my number of base strings is even, my loop will be odd because of the leading string ?

For a pattern with 18 base strings, you take 9 strings double the length and fold them in half to have 18 base strings.

There are basically two options for making a loop (or rather the shaped start after the loop) in an alpha:
- using the same technique you would use in a normal using only the base strings and no leading string in the beginning
- knotting the shaped start row-by-row like you do in the rest of the alpha

Which of those options would you like to do? @Alicia0214

I have already prepared 9 strings to fold them in half. And for the two choices, I prefer the second technic, for the start begins like an alpha pattern.

@Alicia0214 then you have two options

- include one end of the leading string in the loop, you can cut that end in the end, this way it's easier to hide the end of the leading string

- don't include the end of the leading string in the loop and just start the shaped start like you would do it, if you didn't do a loop

Thanks @halokiwi, I found a video on YouTube a tutorial to make loops and starts with even and odd of strings. I will make the start of my bracelet like that. Thank you everybody !
