starting off alpha bracelets

okay so i was starting off a new alpha bracelet and for some reason it went in like an upside down triangle, i started it off by just tying a knot to keep all the string together so idk if that's why or what else i could be doing wrong

That seems to be exactly the reason. If you tie all the base strings together, you can't start in a straight line. My recommendation would be to undo the knot now to see, if it is straight then.

How I usually start bracelets ( normal or alpha) is I cut the strings, line them Iโm and tape them down with no knot, make sure to leave enough length of threat to make ends, then start knotting, after the first couple of rows the twist the ends that you left room for. Then keep knotting until your finished. Hope this helps ๐
