How do you typically go about buying thread, and are there any specific brands you like?

Hey everyone, I’m curious how y’all go about buying embroidery thread? I’m newish to making bracelets (about 10 months) and am not sure what’s the best way to go about buying thread. I started out with a random bag, and when I ran out of colors, I just bought four of the same fifty-thread packs on Amazon so I’d have a decent amount if each color. Now I’ve ran out of white thread (I use it a lot haha) and am thinking of just buying a bunch of black and white as they’re colors that I use a lot, but before I do that I wanted to hear how others typically go about buying thread (like do you typically buy something like a fifty-pack, or just buy individual threads?). Thanks in advance for the advice 🙂

I buy loops and threads 36 skein packs to keep my embroidery floss stock high but occasionally I go and buy indivual skeins for specific projects and/or because I find them pretty. I hated how loops and threads has only a 36 pack of white skeins but not black so I recently got two large cones of dmc (one white and one black) and now I won't run out for a long time. I lie how loops and threads has many packs like neons, rainbow, white, sunset colours (red, orange, yellow, white, black), brown, blue, etc.

Also I buy loops and threads plus individual dmc at michaels however I sometimes buy skeins from etsy and I once bought a bulk pack of dmc, its just that the bulk dmc variegated threads was pretty expensive so were the large cones I got on the dmc website

I usually go to micheals or Deserre ( I’m from montreal canada ) but I’ve bought several ones from amazon and I think there the best. I buy thread from the dollar store/walmart whenever I do alphas so I can use them as “base strings”

@2006-Mandy, thank you for the reply! I looked up the skein thread, and it looks like a good option for stock thread! It’s weird that skein only has a 36 for white but none for black (I’d assume it would sell well?), but the cones of dmc seem to be a good way to go. The loops and threads looks interesting too!

@Emzz I’m glad to hear that you think Amazon’s the best (I get most of my things there because I don’t like shopping irl haha). I’ll keep in mind the advice for buying alpha base threads from walmart/dollar store too, thank you!

I like lovimag embroidery floss and you can get it on Amazon but start off with the 60 skein pack first to see if you like it

@beymaster the lovimag thread looks good, though like you said I think I’ll try the skeins first. Thank you for the advice 🙂

I personally prefer DMC threads, they have good colour ranges and they are good quality thread. Most threads I use are DMC, hope this helps 😊
