Consistent Edges on alphas

Is there any tips on how to keep the edges consistent on alpha patterns? I do the straight edge technique and flat alpha technique but sometimes when I make an alpha the edges get wider. This happens especially when I use keychains but not as much as when I do loops. Any tips?

Try to keep the knots tight. I have the same problem sometimes with keychains cause I’m not pulling them as tight after the first row
