Hi!

I never know how long to make the threads for the bracelets! Does anyone know more or less? I know it depends on the person's wrists, but I always have enough (I never get it to be able to use them again) or I'm missing 🙁
Thanksss❤️❤️

It also depends on the pattern and how many knots a string makes. If a string makes lots of knots of its colour, the string needs to be longer. If a string is often knotted onto and it does not make many knots of its own colour, it needs to be shorter.

@taliwali88 if you click on a pattern, you’ll see on the top right side of the page “Add a photo”. You can click on that and upload a photo! Hope this helps (:

Personally, if i'm making a normal pattern i tend to measure the strings against my wingspan and then use half of that. My wingspan is 68 inches so that's usually enough. I might go a little longer if it's a very wide or long bracelet, or shorter if it's much smaller.
For alpha patterns, i make the base strings about 4 inches longer than the bracelet (or keychain, wall hanging, ect.) is supposed to be, and then for the color strings i just leave them in their bundles so i'm sure to have enough.
when in doubt, use more string. while it is possible to fix a string that is too short, in my experience it looks kinda weird in the finished bracelet.

@Coconuttie

two things come to my mind:
- you are probably not used to making backward knots, if you have only done candystripes and staircases before. Try making a candystripe or staircase with only backward knots to practice those as well.
- to avoid holes between knots, make sure to pull the first half of the knot tight before making the second half: the first half determines the placement of the knot, the second half secures it in space

Also don't pull too tight. You should not need to pull tighter than you do when making candystripes.

@Lillian_23 you can use the other end of the first leading string as the last base string. I hope that makes sense 🙂
