Hi! So, I'm making alpha friendship bracelets and I noticed that once I finish they look smaller than it's supposed to be. Even when I look at other people's bracelets with the same pattern that I did, theirs look bigger while mine look smaller. Am I doing something wrong???? Help!!!

Which materials are you using?I think it would be useful, if you posted a photo of one of your bracelets so it would be easier to determine what might be going wrong. I think if the only issue is that it is too small, that sounds absolutely fine to me. |

you might be tying your knots tighter or using a thinner string :]

if you want them to be bigger, try to make looser knots or buy bulkier string. Otherwise, there's no problem with small bracelets 😄

If you want bigger bracelets you might want to try to tie your knots looser or using a thicker string. But generally there is no problem with having smaller bracelets

Sometimes if there is a pattern that I think will come out too small when I tie it, I double up on leading strings-- that is, I hold two colored strings together when I tie on each base string (using only the normal amount of base strings) and the finished bracelet ends up nice and chunky. That being said you may just have a higher tension than others, and there's merits to that! Your bracelet will take longer to fray or pill which is a good quality to have.

@sage-wolf what do you mean when it comes to my knots being tighter? I'm confused by that. can you explain? Everyone says to make it looser but im lost on why though.

@peristyle you can actually double your strings like that??????? i never knew that! 🤯 🤯 🤯 🤯 does it help to make the bracelet bigger or is it more on the tightness issue?

If you pull a knot really tight, it is smaller than when you make a loose knot. In a tight knot the strings are closer together and get compressed, in a loose knot they don't.

@Bluejay21 It will make your bracelet significantly bigger, particularly WIDER, so I would suggest making a test bracelet the first time you try it (maybe a basic normal like chevron, or an alpha that’s mostly background). You can use this technique like a “cushion” for tension problems, as your knot tightness will likely change and normalize as you make more bracelets!

@halokiwi and @peristyle thank u so much for the advice. I'll put that to use and try it out. since I do think I am pulling my tension too tight for my knots. Thanks!! ill also do some tests as well since i want to make sure its right. 😊
