How do YOU follow patterns?

Okay so I just stared making bracelets a few weeks ago and of course started with the basic candy stripe and zig zag kind of stuff. However, now that I'm looking at patterns on here, I'm wondering if the way I follow the patterns is "wrong" or if other people are out here doing the same? Some research shows that I'm not really doing normal knotting OR segment knotting in the traditional sense (although sometimes I do get some nice segment rows, and sometimes I'm switching string every knot). I tend to start on the rightmost pair of strings, and tie the first knot. Then do the next pair to the left and tie all the way to the bottom right. Then the next pair all the way across again. Basically working on a diagonal starting on the left and going down to the right. Anybody else do this? Is there an inherent problem with doing this (i.e. is a bracelet more likely to be uneven or otherwise wonky?)? It makes it a lot easier for me to follow so if there's nothing wrong with it I'll probably stick with it but now I'm curious 😂 |

Your method sounds absolutely fine 🙂I think knotting in diagonals is not very common, but it seems more effective than knotting row by row and also seems to have less chances to make a mistake than when segment-knotting. I personally do segment-knotting because it is the fastest and most effective in my opinion, but all methods of knotting are completely fine. They all have their pros and cons. |
