Are keychains durable?

Hi! I found a pattern I would like to make keychains for my friends from. However, I mever made keychains before because I didn't think they're actually usable. What's your experience? Don't they rip or unravel or something like that if I put them on a keyring together with actual metal keys and keep throwing them in a bag or shoving them in a pocket? Is there a special thing you can do to make them more durable? |

In my experience the keychains I use don't suffer more from use than my bracelets do 🙂

I mainly make keychains, and in my experience they are durable! Of course, overtime, the stiffness of the keychain will reduce so it’ll become more flexible, but that’s the only “issue” I ever have with mine, and I’ve had my keychains on backpacks, on my wallet with my keys, etc. Oh, and they will get dirty over time, but that’s naturally going to happen. Other than that, they should be good!

Thank you both for your answers! I think I will give it a go, then! 🙂@_haileyom_ can I ask you what you usually do with the backs of the keychains? Do you use the knotting technique where the back of an alpha will look exactly like the front? Or do you sew a piece of fabric onto the back? I usually darn in my leading threads on the back of an alpha when I'm done, because I'm paranoid they'll come loose, but it seems to me like doing that on a keychain will not only look bad but make it just as likely to come loose on the back. But maybe I'm just overanalyzing this? |

the actual knotting of the bracelet is pretty durable, but if you use the swivel D clips, i’ve noticed that the actual clips is not so durable. i’ve had 3 break on me so the actual consistent usage might break the clip depending on where you have it

personally all of my keychains have been durable with both d rings and teardrop loops. like the others said they do get dirty over time, but that’s really the biggest issue i’ve had

I usually just leave the backs how they are, but I; the past I’ve glued fabric to the back.

Thank you @_haileyom_ ! Then I'm all set to try it out! 🙂And thank you two for answering also! That's a shame about the D-links, I've always thought they look pretty cool. But rn I don't have any at hand either way, so it will have to be teardrop loops for now anyway. |

i normally make my keychains from normal patterns, but i have one on a water bottle from 3 years ago, and it’s beginning to come apart, however i clip stuff onto the loop. i would avoid using lighter colors if you can cause they get really dirty

Once again, thank you to everybody! I finished them and my friends are delighted. 🙂We'll see how long they'll last but with all your tips and assurances, I'm pretty optimistic! |

I have a keychain on my checked baggage and it has survived about 30 different flights in the past two years, and it is just starting to get ratty.
