You can use knitting yarn to knot alphas and you can also knit alphas. Both should be possible.

probably but i’m not sure if the image would turn out as crisp/defined because of the size and texture of yarn! if you do try it out i would love to try it if it works 🙂

if it’s the correct size! mashaknots on youtube sometimes uses knitting yarn and explains which ones she uses (in a few videos)

It is technically possible, if all your yarns are of the same width and firmness, and you’ve got pretty good control of your knot tension. If you really want, alphas can also be made with macrame rope. The results will just be a lot bigger than those made with embroidery floss.

I have tried making alphas with knitting yarn and they turn out ok, but they are very bulky and the image doesn't turn out how its supposed to look. I would check to make sure the size of yarn that you're using is good for that specific pattern.

You can definitely use yarn to make alphas (I've made quite a few with medium weight/sock weight yarn). However I will say that the knots tend to be slightly more of an oval shape than a rounded shape and as a result the pattern tends to look like it has been stretched a bit. And like some other people mentioned, the lines look a little less crisp and neat. If you are planning to do a lot of color switches I would recommend using very thin yarn because even with flat alpha techniques the pattern tends to get very thick very quickly.

idk if this is exactly what you’re talking about but maybe look into tapestry crochet, i don’t think it’s the same exact thing as friendship bracelet-ing but some techniques are similar enough to alphas that you could get the hang of it pretty easily, but yea the edges aren’t as defined just because the yarn is fuzzy
