alpha same color string and base string

How do you guys make alphas where some of the strings are the same color as the base string. I always mix up which of them is the base string and which is the color string

if setting the leading string aside doesn’t work and i’m still confused, sometimes i’ll tie a knot at the end of the leading string. the base strings won’t have that so it’s easier to differentiate

i like to make my leading/non base strings significantly longer so it’s easy to tell. afterwards you could make another project with the extra or use it as a base in another project

I leave my leading strings on the skein and only cut them in the end. This way you can tell them apart easily.

i do the same as ughastd said, i tie a knot at the end of my leading string to know which one it is… plus when it gets really short it’s easier to make knots as it holds the strings together 😁
