Adding a new color on the edge

So...for example, a pattern like #120063, ya see how towards the bottom you add in a new color (the medium blue for the water), and it's on the edge? Are they're any tips or videos on how to do that....smoothyly? And like for another pattern, #102961, a new color is started at the very beginning (I'm making it horizontally on a wooden dowel), and I don't want the blue string on the dowel, but I want it to look smooth and cohesive I guess? Any tips/ideas?Hopefully that wasn't too confusing. XD Thanks in advance!! |

If you do the straight edges technique (bf knots on the left edge, fb knots on the right edge), if you add new colours at the edge, the ends of the strings won't stick out.
