you could try to cut all your strings short or you could use the clean back alpha technique, I am pretty sure there is a tutorial for it here on braceletbook and masha knots has a yt tutorial: https://youtu.be/JCXIzmm0f3c

You could also cover the back with felt or leather, just a suggestion😊

Hi, I had the same question, but with the addition that I know and understand Masha's tutorial. My question would be if people actually make bookmarks with more than 10 colors in this way.
It doesn't seem practical to me, but for a bookmark, you need both sides to look good.
For example, would you really make this pattern with this technique, or how would you do it: https://www.braceletbook.com/patterns/alpha/134142/

@IndyHaine when mentioning patterns in the forum it's best to put the pattern number with # before it like this: #134142. On the website it becomes a clickable link and I think for app users it's not possible to copy and paste anyways, so for them a full link is not useful either.

When doing the clean back alpha technique, you don't need to carry all colours through the whole pattern. Just carry them where you need them and if you don't need them for a while, cut them and start with a new string when you need the colour again.

I think the pattern you named as an example might be manageable, if you do that. For other patterns that might not be possible because more colours are used in close proximity of each other.

Thank you! I will link it like that next time.

Okay, that is very interesting. I had hoped there was another way to make double-sided alphas with many colors. Then I'll just have to find a way to get the knots with more than two strings less thick. I probably just have to practice a lot more before I'll be able to do that. 😢

@IndyHaine you could also make two separate alphas and put them back to back. Then you don't need to worry about the back of either of them, but it might get a little thick for a bookmark.

Another option is to attach fabric to the back to have a clean looking back. Then there of course won't be a design on the back.

Thank you for the tips! I think I should just experiment with these options before trying to make another bookmark. Then I'll see what works best for me.

I usually put felt over the back because if you use the clean back technique with a lot of colors the design might be elongated since the knots will be longer
