The unit of measurement is the amount of knots in the patternAn alpha pattern with the dimension 10x20 has 10 knots per row and 20 rows A normal pattern with the dimension 10x20 has 10 knots in uneven rows and 20 rows |

For the strings in normal patterns, I saw a lot of people measuring their "wingspan" that is when you extend your arms on the side and measure from one hand to the other, I believe that comes around to 72 inches. People do thing when they fold their strings in half to create a loop. If you just make 1 string at the time, this comes to about 36 inches per strings. For alpha patterns, I'm still trying to figure out the best way to figure out the perfect lenght for my base strings so if someone has advices on this i'll also be glad to hear them ! Hope it helped 🙂 |

To figure out how long your base strings need to be, you can just measure how long a certain amount of rows is in an alpha you have previously knotted and use that to calculate how long the amount of rows in the pattern you want to knot is. Add some extra for the ties. Make the strings double the length, if you make a loop. For the leading strings, it's hard to estimate, so I would recommend to always leave them on the skein and cut them in the end 😄 |
