I’ve been using the floss for my bracelets but the pattern always comes out well… horrible I’ve recently starting using thin cotton yarn and my bracelets has been coming out way more ummm put together… my question is has anyone else tried using that instead of the usual floss and how did it work out for you?

honestly, I think that embroidery floss turns out much better because the knots in yarn are just thick and usually don't look good at all

If you are a beginner, your bracelets may not turn out very well, but after a while and some practice they should look pretty decent

but it depends on the kind of yarn you use too

I much prefer embroidery floss because it's easier to work with, and doesn't get squishy or inconsistent when you tie your knots. There is a learning curve to both ways though.

i sometimes use thin yarn for my base strings on alphas. Don’t use it as a leading string on an alpha. Using it on normals might work. this is also fine if u are using only yarn.

I mostly use cotton yarn for my normals. I find them to be cheaper (if you calculate by length) and sturdier than embroidery floss. You can see my creations on my profile page; with the exception of pattern no. 12744, the top ten were all made with cotton lace yarn.Of course, whether or not cotton yarn works as a medium for you depends on two things: (1) whether you're comfortable working with them, and (2) the kind of yarn you use. The yarn I use are lace/crocheting yarn that are made of cotton and have very little stretch (like, they don't change their thickness/shape when you pull the strings tight). They are also often just a little over 1mm in thickness. For beginners who want to use yarn for economical reasons, I suggest finding yarn like these; they're quite commonly found in local dollar stores/craft stores in the crochet section. |

I have tried using regular yarn and I will say that it definitely made my bracelets look way neater and overall, nicer. One downside of using yarn was that it was way too thick and the bracelets became very bulky and unusable. But, another alternative to regular string would be embroidery floss. It's like regular string, but a little thicker, and I find that it really helps make my bracelets look neater.

Yarn has its upsides and downsides, in my opinion. It can help to bulk out thinner patterns, it's cheaper, and it comes in more colors and dye patterns, But it can make your bracelets too big, rip or tear, create uneven knots, and be harder to match thicknesses between brands. You'll have to choose what's best for you, though I'd recommend picking whichever thread you're going to continue using. If you plan on using yarn for all your bracelets, then stick to yarn! But if you want or plan to primarily use embroidery floss in the future, I would stick out the rough patch. I think it's better for you to get a feel for the floss, how tight your knots need to be, how they should be spaced, etc. if you want to use it in the future. Your bracelets will get better with time and practice.
