i wanna make alphas so bad, lil bookmarks for my friends n stuff. but i have a hard time learning new things n get frustrated fast. i know how to make a bracelet using the wheel thing, and the “basic knots” (in quotes bc idk if they’re actually basic or not) forward, backward, fb, and bf. i wanted to make a daisy chain bracelet so i tried,, and nearly chopped my fingers off out of anger. i have like 3 bracelets that are just fb, bf stuff.. an inch of blue, an inch of green, yadda yadda yadda. i don’t have a clipboard, i sit on the floor n tape the string down on my shelf/dresser n go at it. AND WHY DO THE STRING HAVE TO BE SO GD LONG THEY JUST GET KNOTTED UP BEFORE I CAN FOLD THEM IN HALF

If you want to do an alpha, you can start right away with doing alphas. Alphas are not more difficult than normals, just different. To start, I recommend a pattern with just two or three colours or the rag rug bracelet. Those are good to practice colour switches. To learn how to make alphas, I recommend MashaKnots' video on the flat alpha technique. |

if you know the basic knots then alpha patterns just take practice, and you don’t necessarily have to follow a specific pattern just to practice. i would try taking strings that are a few inches, probably colors you don’t like/use a lot, and just practice doing the alpha technique and color switches on those. after getting used to the technique alphas are in a way more simple than normal bracelets. hope this makes sense and is helpful 🙂

@update i may or may not be getting a clipboard today so i’ll have another workspace. following tips n gonna use a few colors n try out “beginner alphas” (in quotes bc i don’t wanna get in over my head n do the difficult ones i have saved). i’ll keep y’all updated when i have it done/do it. i have a lil ziploc bag of lil prototypes that would make better keychains than anything. i do watch mashaknots n use her videos bc she is *chefs kiss* w tutorials. my current project is just a candy stripe bracelet for my friend but it’s..curving and idk why. bUT when i get the clipboard i’m gonna use that ruler technique to really “flatten/tighten” the knots. ty all for the helpful advice, one step at a time <3

@morgues I recommend kinsey b's tutorials too, I've learnt everything from her videos, she explains everything really well! ☺️ Alphas can be challenging at first, but if you practice them, you will get better and better. 😊
