A normal bracelet would be like patterns #2 and #18 where all of the strings involved in the bracelet work together to form the full design. Alphas have base strings that are knotted over and are not seen in the finished design, such as #129503. A working string would be added, and would be what makes the design.

For a clearer explanation, I recommend watching Alex’s Innovations video “The Beginners Guide to Alphas”, there is a great rundown of the differences at the beginning of the video

alphas are a bit more complicated than normals. Alphas have base strings, and you have to add on more string for each color to make a design. Although they’re time consuming, I love to make them and they turn out beautiful 😻!!

@roos_vdl Alphas normally have pictures yes. I recommend watching Masha Knots beginner's guide to friendship bracelets.

There are two types of bracelets on braceletbook. These are referred to as normals and alphas. Alphas often show pictures, images, lettering, etc. Alphas also have knots that move horizontally while normals have knots that move diagonally.

Alphas are bracelets which have base strings which are set up parallel to each other. You then knot over those strings with a knotting string.
