How do you come up with ides or make them so quickly? What are your tips for normals? Alphas? Have a great day!

I don't make A LOT of patterns anymore, but I'll try to help.

How to come up with ideas: What kind of bracelet do YOU want to make? What do you think is missing from the site? Maybe you have an uncommon favorite animal, and you've searched for patterns of the animal, but haven't found any. Maybe you want a pattern that features your favorite character, but there aren't any that you like. You can try to make one! If you can't come up with any ideas, you could just go to the Requests part of the forum and see what people are asking for. They'll give you an idea of what they want, and you'll just have to make the pattern.

How to come up with MORE ideas: Most people who make "a lot" of patterns have several patterns that are kind of similar. For example, #128335 is similar to #128334 and #128333. The only part of the pattern that has been changed is the innermost square. It's not a bad thing to have a few patterns that are kind of similar--I do that too ( #125964 is similar to #126044, #126067 is similar to #126065, etc.)... You can really change a pattern a lot by just changing a few knots, experimenting with the pattern generator, etc.

How to make them quickly (using the "similar patterns" approach): Once you've made a pattern that you like, don't submit it yet. First, copy and paste the pattern into another pattern draft. Then just play around with the generator, changing knots to make a new, unique pattern. Now you have two patterns!

Tips for normals/alphas: I actually started creating patterns with alphas (on a different profile that I don't use anymore). I think it's probably easier to create alpha patterns because each knot/square can be whatever color you want. However, I prefer making normal bracelets, so I only actually made a few of my alpha patterns into bracelets.

It really depends on why you're making the patterns, and who you're making them for. Do you personally want to make the patterns into bracelets, or do you just want to share them with other people who might enjoy them? You might have certain limits to the kinds of bracelets that you like to make (maybe a strong preference for normals or alphas, a string limit, etc.). If you want to make bracelets from your own patterns, those are important things to keep in mind as you're creating the patterns. If you just want to make patterns for everyone else to enjoy, those things probably aren't as important.

Good luck

In my experience once I started designing patterns, I started seeing patterns anywhere on shirts, on bags, on blankets, even on toilet paper and I asked myself "can this be made into a bracelet pattern?". So inspiration just comes to me.

If it doesn't come to me, I like going to the request section of the forum, to see what patterns people would like to see and try to design those.

i keep a note page on my phone! i often come across ideas when i'm out and i sort them under individual patterns or a miscellaneous label. likewise my creator is a mess of draft designs (and custom patterns that don't meet site guidelines 😅) i like to work these into new patterns where they fit
