I am new to making friendship bracelets, wanted to make some for our granddaughter as Christmas presents, and have run into something I need help with.

Being new to this craft, I followed the recommendations on the videos I watched to do the chevron and stripped angle pattern, both turned out nice. I saw how easy the Zipper bracelet was to make so I decided that was my next project. Unfortunately, my short term memory decided at that moment to take a vacation and what I produced was interesting but nothing like the pictures; another attempt turned out just like the pictures.

While the videos and pictures show using three colors, I used five, with one used as the base string. The other four colors were paired on both sides and then I proceeded to tie knots as though it was a Zipper bracelet, with one exception. To bring the outside paired strings to the middle, I used a forward knot onto the paired strings which were just knotted to the base strings; backward knots were used on the right side. And to keep things looking consistent, if the right paired strings were tied to the base strings first, then they would always be tied first as I worked my way down the bracelet. And vice versa if left side tied first.

Now my question. I want to use a pattern generator or a blank pattern template to document the boo boo I created, but am unsure how to show the strings in their proper position. I gather the base strings would to in the middle of a template and the others on both sides. But because the color of the strings is in no particular order, I'm not sure how this would be shown on the template. Plus, because the strings are in pairs and are not tied in specific orders, again, I'm not sure how this would be shown on the template. And, the strings at the top may not match those at the bottom.

Thank you to anyone who can translate my ramblings and offer any suggestions. I'd upload a picture of my boo boo but I am unsure how that would be done.

Hello! If you go on their website they have a generator to help create patterns. I think the best option would be to upload a link of your picture with the mistake and a link of the patter with the correct knot. You can circle which one was the mistake on the pattern. Sorry I hope this kinda helps!

Hi Ashalyn,

Thanks for your reply.

It isn't so much that I made a mistake, sort of, but may have made something that others might find interesting and want to try and make. Unfortunately, if I try and put it in the generator on this site a message will appear saying the colors at the end don't match the colors at the beginning--been there had that happen. This is because there is no particular order for the working colors at the beginning of the bracelet, and therefore the ending colors may not match the position beginning colors.

Also, because pairs of working strings are knotted onto the base strings, I'm unsure how that would be shown when making the pattern using the pattern generator on this site.
