Hi, I was wondering how to find and distinguish the difference in knot types while trying to read the bracelet photos. What is a good way to remember the knot types?

You always have to look at the direction the arrows in the knots in the pattern are pointing into. That's how you know which knot is which.I recommend taking a screenshot of the pattern or printing it out and then drawing in the segments for segment knotting. Segment knotting should make memorizing the pattern easier. https://www.braceletbook.com/tutorials/97_how-to-segment-knot/ |

One trick I found useful in my knotting journey was to completely disregard the names of the knots. The usual train of thought when reading patterns the typical way is to see the arrow -> remember the name -> make the proper kind of 4 on the strings. This technique proved quite confusing for a beginner me, since forward/backward is very subjective (you could say that you're always knotting forward bc you're constantly making progress) and I kept getting confused as of what way should the active string go after the knot. When you ignore the knot names, you just look at the direction of the arrows and only pay attention to the direction of the active string's tail that's hanging loose on the side as you make the 4, not caring about the 4 itself. I think it's more straightforward - arrow goes to the right? then point the tail to the right when making the knot! arrow goes fb/bf? follow the 1st section of the arrow in the first knot, then orient the string where the end of the arrow points to! As a result, my mind only goes "string goes to the right, now string to the left..." as I follow the pattern. I hope the way I described it is helpful! |
