How long should i cut the string if I want to make a necklace?

Let's say, you want your necklace double the length a bracelet would be, in this case you would need to cut the string double the length you would usually cut it. But I don't know how long a necklace would be. I recommend taking a piece of string and using that to lay it around your neck how you would want the necklace to lay. Then you measure the length of that string and compare it to how long a bracelet would be.
