how long do I make the base strings for an alpha???????????

It depends how long your pattern is the longer your pattern the longer the strings should be but they don’t have to be crazy long cause you never have to tie knots with them I would it’s better to make them longer than you think you will need just to make sure you don’t run out of space.

This is what I use when I make alphas. If some parts don’t apply to the one you’re making skip that and move to the next: Length of bracelet + (length of ties x 2) + length of loop

And then if you start your alpha with teardrop loop and normal knots to make the ends straight you’ll also need to calculate how much string will be used for those knots. I usually add an extra inch or two if I start my alpha this way
