If you have a Hobby Lobby near you, I have been using their brand of crochet thread in size 5. It is over 300 yards for under $4

Could I use wool it’s slightly thicker than my embroidery but I’m only using it for base strings it’s not a massive difference 🤔

@flozieee Yeah totally! When i make alphas i normally use my thread that is slightly thicker and would not work as a thread to knot with so i think that your wool thread would work just as well as embroidery thread.

I have started 2 alphas using them and it has turned out perfectly and it’s easier so I’m not getting confused. thanks to everyone who helped me😊

@Pali, I use a brand from hobby lobby called iris. You can get huge packs of it and its super nice, they also have packs of black and white which i use for alpha base strings.

Hope this helps!

You can also consider using cotton yarn. Sometimes a spool of those is cheaper than a bunch of embroidery floss, and I find them to be much more stable.

I’ve just noticed my Joann sells big packs now of black and white string only for like $5 and it’s a good amount for the price too!!! Doesn’t feel cheap either.

Where is the best place for cheap crochet thread other than hobby lobby? I would rather not go to hobby lobby due to their beliefs

Amazon has big packs of cheap thread if you want somewhere else to look. I have ordered big packs of black and white off there and they are good quality for a cheaper price.
