hi there
ive been making bracelets for a while now, but up until now ive always made very simple designs.
i cant seem to make any complex ones as i feel almost scared off by them and how intricate some of them are
on top of this, i seem to have a fear of wasting string? i always cut too little because i dont want to waste it and then i end up with a bracelet im unable to finish.
if anyone has any advice on how to help with this it will be massively appreciated
thanks

I have lots of tips so this is long :}

I would say to work your way up with slightly more intricate patterns each time you knot, and if it’s really overwhelming you can try keychains as they’re smaller and take less string and time.

I watched a lot of YouTube videos and really payed attention to their knotting styles and habits and saw what they did differently from me to get a better result than I was.

As for fear of wasting string, I always say cut more than you think you need because you can always cut off the excess and use it for rag rug alphas, or if there’s only a few knots of one color in an alpha pattern.

if you’re cutting strings for alphas, I always leave the leading string colors on the bobbin or skein and knot with the whole thing because I never know how much I’ll need. And for base strings on alpha bracelets I always cut them 5 to 6 times longer than a bracelet (including the pattern, loop, and ties), because I fold in half to make a loop so it’s 2.5 to 3 times longer than the finished bracelet, and once the bracelet is done and I make the ties, there’s often little string left over

And I don’t have any advice for cutting string for normals, I rarely do normals so I could use tips myself tbh 😂
