Hi, so I've been making bracelets for a while and I still don't get how someone can create their own normal patterns, like how does one figure out the strings to knot onto and such to make a specific design. Sorry if the question doesn't make sense, it's just something I've been wondering for a long time.

With a little experience, you don't really need to draw them on paper first.I recommend playing around with the interactive generator. It's very intuitive and helps to understand the structure of normal patterns better. |

i just mess around with the generator until i like how it looks, honestly i just use it as a way to kill time in school 🤫 so i’ve got a ton of drafts/non published ones i don’t quite like yet

Play with the generator! Certain knots make different shapes!

I sell a printable bracelet template book on my Etsy (TheOneEyedArtist) that includes blank templates that you can make your own designs out of. It makes the process easier for some to do it on paper vs doing them on a computer app, which can sometimes be confusing.

If you want to use paper, you can also very easily use graph paper and draw the structure of the pattern in using the grid as an orientation. This tutorial shows how https://www.braceletbook.com/tutorials/34_designing-normal-patterns/ |

I usually use graph paper to start out. I rotate it 45 degrees and use 1 box for each knot. I start by outlining my idea, then filling it in with marker. Next I write the direction of the knots of the paper, and finally transfer it the the generator and edit it so that the knots look the same as on the paper or however I want it to look.
