How long should my string be?

I want to make this pattern, #93566 But I've never made an alpha before... So how long should my base strings be? Is there a trick? |

For me 10 rows are almost 2cm. So for the 27 rows in the pattern I would cut 6cm plus extra for loops and ties.Once you made an alpha yourself, you can measure how long a certain amount of rows is for you and use that to calculate |
