Soooo I'm doing an alpha that changes colors on the edges, but I'm using the flat alpha technique .... how should I do the color change? 🙈 🙈 😊

You can do it in two different ways
- for a colour switch at the edge, just do a regular colour switch instead (it's just one knot, so you will barely notice)
- instead of putting the previous leading string through the first knot of the new colour, put the string of the new colour through the last knot of the previous colour (basically reverse flat alpha, you can use it either just at the edges or throughout the whole bracelet, for my most recent alpha I used it for the complete bracelet before and after each colour switch and I was very happy how it turned out)

@Paula-030, I also find that putting the leading string down with the base string, and knotting over two strings instead of one helps to hide that string.

For example, if I have a red knot as the second from the edge, and I'm switching to a blue string on the edge, I would start the knot the same as I would in a regular flat alpha (by doing the first half of the knot). Then, instead of putting the red string through the blue knot, I would put it down with the base string on the edge, and have the blue string knot over both my base string and the red string. This helps to hide the string so it doesn't poke out the side.

For the next row (assuming that you start off with another blue knot), you sort of do the same in reverse. You do half the knot, and then bring the red string back out of the knot, so its at a 90° angle to the base string again. If you are knotting with the red string for the next knot you can go ahead and do that, and if not, just bring it to the back for when you do need it.

I'm not sure if anyone has an actual tutorial on this, but I sort of figured it out from the clean back alpha technique, which basically does the same thing to hide the different strings.

Hope this helps!

Masha Knots has a super helpful video on youtube explaining this.
Here is the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_YVFAX9sacw
I believe she starts talking about it at 18:20. Good luck!
