How are you supposed to measure how long strings need to be? Do you just use the same length for every bracelet? Or does it depend on the wrist? If so, how do I measure the size the bracelet needs to be for someone? I want to make bracelets for my younger siblings, but they all have very little writsts. Do the sizes need to vary? Sorry if this doesn't make much sense, I don't really know how to put it in words.

A lot of people measure the strings by wingspan! As for the bracelet measure it on ur siblings wrist as you knot the bracelet!

@mari1003, it really depends on the type of bracelet you're doing. For normals, people tend to cut string the length of their wingspan. I also find that in patterns that have outline colors (such as Celtic style bracelets) the outline color needs to be longer, because it is used up faster. For alphas, I typically measure the length of my wrist for the length of the actual bracelet. I then add on the length that I want my twisted ties to be, and double it (because the twists shorten as you tie them, and so you'll have a bit of room to tie a knot at the end), and add that length to both ends. I've heard some people say they just do three times the length of their wrist and that works well for the ties too, I just haven't tried that (this way may be simpler). Hope this helps! |
