how do you do the gap patterns?

There are some patterns that are cool but i dont know how to do the spaces. Do i save the gap or just overlap?

I would make the pattern as much as you could until you reach the gap, then I would just (if you’re using a clipboard) skip a couple centimeters and repeat

On row five if you make sure the first and last knot line up then you’ll get the gap and it should stay even
