Tried looking around and couldn’t find answers, so apologies if this has already been asked or discussed. So whenever I’m working on a large project, one that’s usually going to be just a wall hanging, that either is mostly a circle shaped picture or have circles in them; the circles always come out more oval shaped or elongated. Is there a way to avoid this? Does it have something to do with my knots? Should I edit patterns to compensate for this fact? If so, how would I do that? Or is this unfortunately something I just have to accept 😅

You could to either: adjust the pattern or adjust your knotting. To adjust the pattern, first knot a test swatch that has the same width and length in centimeters/inches. Based on that test swatch you can determine the ratio of rows and columns that you need for a perfect square or circle. Based on that you can adjust the patterns. The other way is to try to get the ratio of rows and columns to 1:1 by knotting more loosely or using thicker base strings or doubling up the base strings so you always knot over two base strings instead of one. |
