I would use graph paper or the program that BraceletBook gives you to design the patterns. In terms of making them, you will go to the Create patterns link that is a part of the drop-down under your username (on desktop at least). Once you click on it, you will have the option of either creating a normal pattern or an alpha pattern. The generator already gives warnings etc to show you what you must complete. I'm not entirely sure how to make patterns but I'm certain there are a few tutorials on the site. : )

For normals the interactive normal generator works very well and you can come up with patterns there without planning them out a lot. But if you have a clear image in your head that you want to figure out how to knot, graph paper is indeed very useful. The same goes for when inspiration hits you and you quickly have to write down what you have in mind. For alphas personally I use a pixel art app to draw them and then use alpha from image on my drawing. I think drawing in an app can be easier than drawing in draw alpha but drawing in draw alpha also works well. The second thing I do is use alpha from image on photos directly and then tweak them in draw alpha. With alphas it depends on what style you want to do. |
