whenever i try new patterns besides the basic chevron and candy stripe my bracelets tend to come out really lumpy looking and just kind of mishapen in general. Any tips on how to keeps your bracelets straight? |

try to make your knots loose, use same brand string. |

That's completely normal. You've probably practiced chevron and candystripe a lot so it's natural that they look smoother than other patterns. What you can do is practice, practice, practice... Other things you can do - use the straight edges technique - try not to pull the bracelet to the sides too much while knotting - try to make all your knots consistent |

I think the tension is the hardest thing to master...but practice helps |

I have the same problem! I started making friendship bracelets about 2-3 months ago and I keep trying them to make them look good, but it never helps. I practice every single day, but still, no results. Any suggestions?🥺😕 It would be very helpful! |

@Chillq pay especially attention to the tightness of your knots so that it is always the same. Pull the first half of the knot tight before making the second one. The first half determines the position of the knot and the second one secures it in place. I also want to tell you that some patterns just have the tendency to get a little wonky. If there are lots of knots of one type and then lots of knots of another type, the bracelet often curves slightly to one side and then the other. Could you maybe describe what you don't like about the appearance of your bracelets or maybe even post a photo? |

@halokiwi my bracelet is curving and the knots are seperated from each other |

@Chillq patterns with lots of one knot type for example the candystripe #1 always have the tendency to curve into the direction you are knotting in. You can try to avoid that by not pulling too much to the side when knotting. To avoid the knots from having big gaps, you need to pull the first half of the knot tight and then make the second half so it's secured in place |

I struggled with the exact same thing when I started! Don’t be afraid to try to experiment with tension and tightness. I prefer a tighter look to my projects, so had to work toward that as I began to improve. If your first knot is in a good spot and you are happy with the tautness, you should be good. The more consistent your knots are, the straighter your bracket should work out to be. Good luck! |
