I keep seeing people talk about segment knots and then something about row by row. Im new to making bracelets and I’ve only made about 2 bracelets. Anyway I’m wondering what a segment knot? Or what’s the difference between row by row and segment know?

Segment knotting and knotting row-by-row are techniques you can use in a normal pattern.

When you segment knot, you always knot in diagonals as much as possible. If you have ever knotted the candystripe (pattern #1) or the chevron (pattern #2) you have most likely already segment knotted.

When knotting row-by-row, you always make all the knots of one row before moving to the next row. If you look at pattern #1, there are 4 knots in row 1 and 3 knots in row 2. You would first make the four knots of row 1 and then the three knots of row 2.

If you want to learn how to segment-knot, MashaKnots' video on knotting normal patterns explains it. Most tutorial that explain how to knot a specific pattern us segment-knotting.
