I don't even know how to do an alpha pattern with an odd amount of strings, I get so confused on how to put my base strings on the keychain because there is supposed to be an odd # but I end up with a even #. How do I do a keychain that has a odd # of base strings? Any help would be nice!! 👍

I find it easier to explain with an example:Let's say you have a keychain with 13 basestrings. Each basestring for this particular pattern should be about 6 inches long. How you start a pattern like that? 1) you cut 7 (!) Strings of a length of 12 inches (maybe 12.5 inches to make sure you have enough to make the loop). Why? I secure them to the D-ring by making a simple loop and pulling the string through it so it is secured onto the ring. But in order to do that you need longer pieces and so i find it easier to half your amount of basestrings but make them double the lenght. Why 7? Well 13/2 = 6.5. Then you round UP so that means 7. 2) you secure them onto the ring 3) now you have 14 pieces of string coming from the end of your ring. But you needed 13 right? So then i use the piece most to the left to be my Leading String. I use that one to start the knots onto the 13 other. It is an alfa, so adding string when your leading string runs out is normal! I hope this is a good explanation. If you have further questions, or others have things to add, pls do! Good luck! I'm sure it will turn out beautiful! 😊 |

@Kendall70 I would suggest watching Masha Knots or Kinsey B to help you with making keychains with odd numbers of strings. They have really good tutorials! But I can explain how to do it. What you do is you cut the strings like normal, but for every string you count that as two strings because you eventually have to fold it in half to connect it to the keychain. (assuming that your using the D ring ones) For example if you have 25 base strings you would cut 12 base strings for 24 strings but since it's an odd number you have to cut an extra base string but that makes 26. Leave it at 26 but the last string will have 2 strings which is fine. So with the 13 strings you fold them in half to make 26 rows but treat it as 25 strings. Then you use the larks-head knot to connect it to the keychain. Then make one row of normal knots but for the last string take the two strings on the end and knot them together. Then continue as normal and after 3 rows you can cut the shorter string off. Then continue with the rest of the keychain. Hope this made some sense! 😉

hiiii! ok so if you have a pattern with 11 strings you will put 12 on the keychain and pick the twelvth up and tape it to the side also i reccomend using base strings that are the similiar color to the pattern/used in it so you can braid the extra one into the keychain.

When doing a keychain I just add a row… it’s a little off centre but it makes it easier than doing half of a string
