I’ve been doing bracelets for a year or two now but I just noticed this. Every normal pattern has a strong that seems to be left out every other row. I’ve been leaving that string out and adding it back in in the next row but I’m not sure if that’s right. When I learned how to do a candy stripe and chevron I did every row without leaving anything out but those patterns have this as well. Please help

There are two methods of knotting normal patterns: row-by-row and segment-knotting.

Segment-knotting is what you did for the candystripe and chevron. It basically means that you knot in diagonals as much as possible which generally makes knotting faster.

The other method is knotting row-by-row where you do the knots row by row. Due to the structure of normal patterns that means that on both the left and right side you will have a left out string each second row.

You have to look at the knot segments. You have to see whether it is a backward, forward, forward backward, and backward forward.
You can look at YouTube videos on them too. Masha Knots and Kinsey b have good videos one them. You can start with easy patterns like #1 and #2.
Good luck!
