Hello I have been working on projects more and the string keeps cutting into my fingers what are tricks others use to prevent this? T.I.a.

I have the same problem but it only becomes noticeable when I knot a lot. If it gets really bad, you could put a band aid on your finger for protection. For a more long-term solution I would recommend experimenting with how you hold the strings while knotting or variating how you hold the strings so the string is not always rubbing against the same spot.

I have had this problem a lot, sometimes I just don't care, but sometimes I wrap a piece of cling wrap around my finger.

This tends to happen to me more when my hands are super dry, I try to use lotion in the mornings and before bed when I’m making lots of projects

I am trying to make my first alpha and it is so hard to do it. The instructions won't fit in the page and it says something about it being 50 LINES 🤯 😭 . I am doing this for school and it has to be done by at least January 10. Can you please help me?

@Idefixbook

Generally I would recommend to start with a pattern with not too many base strings. What are the dimensions of the pattern you want to knot.
I think knotting fifty rows should be alright as a beginner as long as the pattern is not super wide and doesn't have super many colour switches 😄
Which pattern is it you want to do? If it has lots of colours or base strings, is there another pattern you could alternatively do?

To beginn with making an alpha, I recommend watching a tutorial first. There are many tutorials giving a good overview of the process. I recommend this one: https://youtu.be/_YVFAX9sacw

@4everfuzzy it really depends on the pattern but usually I do about 10_12 in if it's bracelet length but shorter than u would for a normal pattern bc ur knotting onto it not knotting with the base strings

@4everfuzzy usually I just keep the leading strings on a skein and cut them in the end, but you can also cut them to a length you're comfortable working with and just do a colour switch to a string of the same colour once you run out

@bumblebee9 I think the question was about the leading string, you answered how long to cut a base string. It would also be useful to say if you mean cm, inches or something else

How do i know how long to cut my base strings for alphas?

@4everfuzzy the base strings always need to be the length of the bracelet, keychain etc. plus extra for loops, ties etc.

Once you have made your first alpha, you can take it and measure how long a certain amount of rows is. You can then use this to determine the length of any alpha pattern.
