Hey guys, Everytime I make backward knot it separates and becomes uneven regardless of how hard or lose I tie my knots, how close I hold my string or simply just practice. If I make a forward knot it becomes perfect so I don't know why it does this. Anything will help!

Maybe you could make a candystripe with just backwards knots as practice.

Try paying attention to what you are doing. What are you doing differently than when doing forward knots?

I think that slowing down and paying attention is really important, but for me sometimes if I think about it too much I'll end up messing up, so I'll go a little faster through it without thinking and it somehow works out better. Probably don't be like me haha. It sounds to me like your string itself is separating? As in the multiple strands of the string are coming apart and so when you tighten the knot it looks like it's coming apart? Maybe this is due to the way most threads are made, if it's twisted too far in one direction it'll come apart like that. So maybe try and see if when you make a knot you're twisting the thread alot, or if after a certain amount of knots it does this twisting?

As for the knots being uneven, when you do backwords and forwards knots are you knotting them with the same leading hand? For example I knot forwards knots by holding the base string with my left hand and my leading string with my right hand. And if I do a backwards knot I'll hold the base string with my right and the leading with my left. However not everyone does this, some people always hold the base string with the same hand, I think Alex's Innovations does this in many of her videos but I'm not 100% sure. You may want to try and experiment with what hand holds which string, and what position you hold the thread in when tightening the knot, and sometimes I even wiggle the thread in odd ways to make sure it's the perfect tension. After time you'll get good at it tho, sounds lame but honestly just keep practicing and don't be too hard on yourself! Good luck! 😌
