I was hard at work on pattern 107658, which I believe was described as one of the hottest, and suddenly it is gone. Any thoughts on what has happened? I have found that this sort of pattern doesn't translate well to printing, because the colors show up as very different from those on the computer screen. So a printed version wouldn't help me.

It's possible that the pattern was removed for different reasons.
If it was a normal pattern and you have already made one round of the pattern then maybe you can look back and figure out how to repeat it. If not then maybe look for similar patterns for reference.

I checked the mod chat. It was a simple fishbone chevron which we no longer accept. It was accidentally accepted and then later removed because we no longer accept this kind of pattern.

But we have plenty of these patterns already and it is completely alright to post your photo to a pattern with a different amount of strings because for patterns like these it is really easy to adapt them for different amounts of strings 😄

I see. That is disappointing. I am a beginner and have no ability to adapt anything.

I don't remember how this exact pattern looked but usually for a fishbone chevron you have a regular chevron that alternates with a chevron where you do fb knots instead of f and bf knots instead of b knots.

Do one V with f knots on the left and b knots on the right (the middle knot can be any knot)

Do one V with fb knots on the left and bf knots on the right (again any knot in the middle)

If you tell me how many strings the pattern has, I can probably pick out a similar pattern for you

@halokiwi, I'd appreciate knowing of other pattern(s) that I could continue with. I did about 15 rows of the discontinued pattern, which has 28 strings. Thanks for any assistance you can provide. I appreciate your help and the suggestion from @naokaitlin as well.

Other fishbone patterns on BB:

- #6571 (14 strings)
- #6755 (14 strings—different direction from pattern above)
- #7954 (22 strings)

Alternatively, watch this tutorial by Masha Knots to grasp the general idea behind fishbone chevrons: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rZen3hlixaA&t=556s. You should have no problems adapting your bracelet after watching it.

@vintagegal You’re most welcome. I learned the fish bone chevron from that tutorial, so I can vouch that it works.

@minutcraft, thanks, I will check the tutorial. A quick question. I did some 15 rows of a complicated discontinued pattern of 28 strings. It's been suggested I can continue the bracelet with a pattern of fewer strings (i.e., 22). When the colors and the number of strings is different, do you have any suggestion as to how to salvage the project? I'd love to try!

@vintagegal Hmmm… I’m going to need more info than ‘complicated discontinued pattern’ to offer any suggestions—are you still talking about the fishbone chevron?

@vintagegal are you knotting row-by-row or do you segment-knot?

If you are segment knotting it shouldn't be that complicated. You alternate one regular V made of f and b knots with one V made of fb and bf knots.

If you are knotting row by row it is of course a bit more complicated but you should recognise a pattern too. You always alternate fb and f knots on the left and bf and b knots on the right.

This is the knotting structure
fb,f,fb,f,fb,f,fb, bf,b,bf,b,bf,b,bf
fb,f,fb,f,fb,f, f, b,bf,b,bf,b,bf
f,fb,f,fb,f,fb,f, b,bf,b,bf,b,bf,b
f,fb,f,fb,f,fb, f, bf,b,bf,b,bf,b

If you are knotting row by row, you can just follow it like that. If you want some visualisation of the pattern, just click "create patterns", then "new pattern" next to normal patterns, paste the knotting structure into "knots" and then click "save and test".
