how to do tear drop loop with triangle ends with odd number of strings

I’ve been wanting to do a certain pattern for a few days now and it calls for 18 strings but when I count the first row it’s 17. Is it 17 or 18 base strings?

17 base strings. the string count will always be number of base strings plus one. so to find the base strings you subtract one.

You can also look at the dimensions. The dimensions are always the amount of base strings x the amount of rows for an alpha pattern.Now to your other question: do you knot your triangle ends in the teardrop loop row-by-row like in an alpha or like you would in a normal pattern? Based on what you do, I can give you some hints, but please let me know so I know what's relevant to you 🙂 |

So your pattern has 17 base strings.You take 8 strings double the length you would need for the base strings and fold them in half. Those are your first 16 base strings. For the 17th base string you take one end of your leading string and include it in the loop. This way you can use one end of the leading string as a base string and the other end as the leading string. One triangle end has 8 base strings and the other one has nine. The side with the 8 base strings is the side the leading string is on. You can just knot it like you usually would. The side with the 9 base strings does not have a leading string yet, so you need to take a new leading string to make the triangle end. When you are doing triangle ends with an uneven amount of base strings, in the first row instead of 2 knots you do three knots because you need to make one knot onto the single knot in the middle. 4-1-4 3-1-1-1-3 2-1-1-1-1-1-2 1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1 This is just one way of doing it.
