I was just wondering how you could make A belt.. cause atm I make 33thread wide bracelets to be 6" without ties and that takes about 45inches

I normally use strings the length of 1 meter (40 inches) for a bracelet sized 15 cm (just under 6 inches) (1.1-1.2 meter (43 to 47 inches) if it is a thick design).

A don't have a belt close atm the moment, but I googled the average length of a belt and it would be:

Small: 30-32 inches
Medium: 33-35 inches
Large: 36-38 inches
Xl: 39-41 inches
etc

So it depends on the size of belt you want!

for example:

A medium belt would be 33-35 inches, let's say 33 to make it easier to illustrate. A quick calculation would say that 33 inches (belt length)/6 inches (size normal bracelet) = 5.5. The belt would be 5.5 times larger than the average bracelet. So you need to multiply the string length which you would use for a bracelet by 5.5 (so 47 inches times 5.5 = 258.5 inches).

Conclusion: a medium belt needs 258.5 inches of string length MINIMUM, but with a project this large I would add some more just in case. Nobody wants to work for HOURS on a project only for it to stop because you ran out of string 😢

I hope this helped (and that my calculations are right, math normally isn't my strongest suit lol) and I wish you the best of luck with your belt! I would love to see it when finished! 😍

I would have also calculated it like this. Keep in mind that this only applies if all colours are used equally as often. If you have to make significantly more or less knots with a certain string, you'll need more or less of it.

And if you do happen to run out of string: no problem! You can replace string that has gotten too short. Alex Innovations has a video on it in which she introduces different methods.

I would recommend to make a short part of the pattern as a test. You measure how much string you ended up needing for it and then you can calculate exact data for the belt based on that.
