So I am doing pattern #45088 and I did notice that I need 21 base strings. I want to do this pattern really bad but just a little hesitant because of cutting so much basestrings. Should I be foldingit in half?? So if folded in half, I do 10 strings (making 20) then add one string the size of the strings in half and make a loop with that string and that gets me 21 with minimum effort?? 🙈 Please let me know if my thinking is right |

yeah i like to fold them in half. if it had an uneven number, i’ll make the end of the leading string longer and use that for the extra base string that’s odd.

yeah sure. okay so, for the example you gave: there’s 21 base strings. usually, if i have a larger number, i’ll do the folding in half thing. whether that’s making a loop or putting it on a keyring. i’ll rarely cut 21 individual strings. if you want to make ties at the end, what i would do to be more efficient is to still do the half thing but make them a little bit longer, and then cut the loop so it separates and there isn’t a loop anymore. when i add a that one base string that i can’t really make by folding in half, i’ll make the leading string extra long. so for the example 21 base strings: i’ll cut 10 ones doubled the length, and then fold them in half. i’ll then take the leading string and pull the end so that when i lay it next to the folded base strings, the tail of the leading string is as long as half of 10 base strings if they weren’t folded. if making a loop, i’ll make the tail a little bit longer for the loop. if you want to know how to make triangle ends with an uneven amount of strings, elphabunnydiys (i think that’s how it’s spelled) has a really good tutorial. i believe she’s ashlie or smth on braceletbook. if i’m attaching it to a keyring, i’ll put the 10 base strings on using the larks head knot, and then put the leading string on (still with the longer tail as the 21st base string) but i try to keep the leading string that i’m knotting with on the right side of that 21st base string, so i stay consistent with the straight edge technique. i use the same technique for wall hangings as well. let me know if you have any other questions! this was kind of long aha
